VMI BOARD ADOPTS ATHLETIC FUND PLAN

The VMI Board of Visitors, as expected, adopted a plan for the future funding of the school's intercollegiate athletic program in a meeting Saturday.

At its November meeting, the Board of Visitors reaffirmed its support of the school's NCAA Division I status and 13 sports. The board referred the financing of the program to an ad hoc committee chaired by Harry G. Lee of Richmond.

Through a transition payment of $1.18 million by the VMI Development Board and a major athletic endowment campaign during a five-year period, the committee recommended that the program could be maintained financially. - Staff report
