WILDER ENDORSES TERRY

Gov. Douglas Wilder on Saturday endorsed former Attorney General Mary Sue Terry as his successor.

Wilder said "nothing would please me more" than seeing Terry elected governor in November. Terry is the expected Democratic gubernatorial candidate.

"She's going to be a great governor," Wilder told the estimated 1,200 Democrats attending the party's annual Jefferson-Jackson Day dinner.

She and fellow Democrat Wilder disagreed when she was attorney general over her role as Virginia Retirement System counsel. Wilder previously had declined to endorse her.

During the controversy over the retirement system, Wilder tried to fire Terry as VRS counsel, but she won a court order to stop him.
