KEYDETS LOSE 11TH IN A ROW
Robert Gaines scored 21 points and Western Carolina held VMI to 24 percent shooting Sunday as the Catamounts defeated the Keydets 84-51 in Southern Conference basketball.It was the largest margin of victory for the Catamounts (4-17 overall, 1-13 Southern Conference) in a league game and broke a 16-game losing streak.
VMI (5-17, 3-11) has lost 11 straight.
Ramon Brown got 11 of his career-high 18 points in the first half as the Catamounts bolted to a 40-22 lead behind 49 percent shooting compared to VMI's 25 percent.
The Catamounts led by 35 points, 69-34, with 8:58 left and VMI never got closer than 18.
Gaines, who got 14 of his points in the second half, also pulled down nine rebounds.
VMI was led by Jonathan Penn and Brian Woolsey with nine points each.
