REGION D TITLE GOES TO POWELL VALLEY
Paced by victories in the top three weight classes, Powell Valley won the Region D wrestling tournament Saturday at Powell Valley High School in Big Stone Gap.
Spencer Bowman (171 pounds), Raymond Davis (189) and Shane Tucker (heavyweight) helped Powell Valley clinch the team championship by winning individual titles. Powell Valley totaled 199 points, Coeburn was second with 133.5 points and Patrick Henry-Glade Spring was third with 118 points.
Powell Valley also got individual championships from Stefan Burney (119) and Chris Bartee (135).
Holston had two champions, Eric Smith (103) and David Smith (125). Levi Taylor of Rural Retreat was the 112-pound winner, John Elliott of George Wythe won at 152 and Todd Gillespie of Chilhowie was the 160-pound champion. \
