DRIVER DIES AFTER ACCIDENT ON I-81
A 33-year-old former Roanoke Valley resident died Saturday from injuries received in a car accident in Shenandoah County.According to Culpeper state police, Debbie L. Farmakis of Enfield, Conn., lost control of her car on Interstate 81 about 10 a.m. Friday. The car went down an embankment and overturned.
A Culpeper police dispatcher said the accident report stated that the car "came in contact with an unknown vehicle," but no further details of the investigation were available Sunday night.
The accident happened near Virginia 605 in Shenandoah County. Farmakis was treated first at a hospital in Woodstock and then transferred to Winchester Medical Center.
Family members said Farmakis was traveling to the Roanoke area. She was a graduate of Northside High School.
