IN REFERENCE to Ray White, Gene and Mary Hartsell (letters to the editor, Jan. 31), Judge Apostolou and driving under the influence:Do we have double standards when it comes to breaking the law? The answer is yes. But we've always had double standards in everything.
Judge Apostolou was in a position to do a favor for another bureaucrat. A policeman, on vacation and speeding outside his jurisdiction, may flash his special identification and be told, "So long, have a nice trip." It's called perks of the job, and don't expect it to change. This small stuff has been going on forever, and it's only the tip of the iceberg.
You say you know a good, honorable, politician, bureaucrat or cop? So do I, but that has nothing to do with this, does it? HAROLD BOWMAN SALEM
