ABINGDON ILLUSTRATOR ON DISPLAY AT COLLEGE

The Slemp Gallery of Mountain Empire Community College is showing drawings by free-lance illustrator Charles Vess through Feb. 26.

Vess, who moved to Abingdon about a year ago, has been published by National Lampoon, DC Comics, Marvel Comics, Reader's Digest and Abram's Books.

He describes his work as fantasy-oriented, mythological imagery based on a fairy tale with a grown-up slant. - Southwest bureau
