OBIT MEADOR, CHARLES RAYMOND
MEADOR, Charles Raymond, 81, of Bedford, died Sunday, February 14, 1993 in
the Virginia Baptist Hospital, Lynchburg. A lifelong resident of Bedford, he
was born on January 15, 1912 in Bedford County, a son of the late Samuel Henry
Meador and Elizabeth Anderson Meador. He was preceded in death by his wife,
Marion Goode Meador and a brother, William Paschal Meador. Mr. Meador was a
member of the Bedford Baptist Church for over sixty years, where he served as
Sunday School secretary for forty-two years. He was a member of the Bedford
Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge #1897 and the Elks Lodge #321. He retired from
the Exxon Corporation after thirty years of employment, and in his retirement
he held part-time jobs at Updike Funeral Home and Bedford County Memorial
Hospital. He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Raymond Maxwell and
Jacqueline Harper Meador, Lynchburg; grandchildren, Raymond Maxwell Meador Jr.
and wife, Elizabeth Kay Meador, Nashville, Tenn., Kimberley Meador Jennings
and husband, Arthur Ryland Jennings, Manakin, Virginia; one sister, Frances
Meador Layman and husband, Thomas, Bedford; numerous nephews, nieces and
in-laws, and special friends, Margaret, Paul, ("Chip") and ("Nicki") Sherman,
Bedford. Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, February 18, 1993 at 2
p.m. from the Updike Funeral Chapel, by Dr. Ron R. Blankenship and Rev. Wayne
Murphy. Interment will follow in the Oakwood Cemetery. The family will receive
friends Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Updike Funeral Home, and other times
at the residence of his son. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials
be made to Bedford Baptist Church, Virginia Episcopal School, or a charity of
your choice. Updike Funeral Home, Bedford is in charge of arrangements.
