VRS SHOULD SELL OFFENSIVE STOCK
THE BLUE Ridge Association of Chiefs of Police represents a majority of the chiefs and deputy chiefs from police departments along the Blue Ridge Mountains and in the western portion of Virginia. The association recently voted to support the efforts of Del. Robert G. Marshall, R-Manassas, who has introduced a bill in the General Assembly that instructs the Virginia Retirement System to sell all of its Time-Warner stock no later than July 1994.
Time-Warner Corp. is the parent company and distributor of the rapper Ice-T's "Body Count" album, which until last year included the song, "Cop Killer." This song, which contains lyrics about killing police officers, is offensive to law-enforcement officers.
The association supports the First Amendment right of Time-Warner Corp. to produce or distribute the album. We do not support the purchase of Time-Warner stock by the Virginia Retirement System with money deducted from our paychecks for our retirement.\ PHILIP A.
