AFL-CIO ENDORSES TAX PLAN
Despite the prospect of higher taxes on workers, the AFL-CIO on Tuesday endorsed President Clinton's economic plan without reservation at its winter meeting in Bal Harbour."We will do our best to strongly support it," AFL-CIO President Lane Kirkland said. "We believe the president is moving in exactly the right direction."
The endorsement followed a briefing Tuesday by Labor Secretary Robert Reich, who talked with the AFL-CIO executive council for more than three hours. It came despite reports that tax increases, once aimed primarily at upper-income workers, would be extended to middle-income people.
"The plan . . . is fair to everyone, including working people," Kirkland said. - Fort Lauderdale Sun-Sentinel
