2 INDICTED IN PULASKI COUNTY IN SHOOTING OF MOTORIST

Two Pulaski County men were indicted by a grand jury Tuesday in the November shooting of a motorist as he drove near Fairlawn.

Christopher Dane McGlothlin, 18, of Bertha Street, and David Allen Lawson, 21, of Bob White Boulevard, are accused of maliciously wounding Curtis Clayton Sifford, 58, of Highland Road.

Both men were indicted on seven charges Tuesday, including malicious wounding, using a firearm to commit a felony, shooting into an occupied vehicle and conspiracy.

McGlothlin and Lawson were being held in the Pulaski County Jail in lieu of $500,000 bond. Lawson, whose attorney is Mike Fleenor of Pulaski, is scheduled for a May 21 trial. McGlothlin, represented by Joe Painter of Blacksburg, is scheduled for a May 13 trial.

Sifford was shot in the face with a 12-gauge shotgun, authorities said. He was shot near the Dogwood Lodge as he drove toward Radford to his job at the Lynchburg Foundry about 4:10 a.m.

McGlothlin and Lawson did not know Sifford and there was no apparent motive for the shooting, the county sheriff's office said in November.

The sheriff's office said Sifford had left the Hardee's parking lot in Dublin after getting a cup of hot tea when he noticed he was being followed on U.S. 11 by an old pickup truck. Near Dogwood Lodge, the truck - occupied by two people - pulled into the passing lane beside Sifford's truck. A shot was fired, striking Sifford's left cheek and exiting the right cheek.

Sifford drove until he reached McDonald's in Fairlawn, where he was able to flag down a co-worker who took him to Radford Community Hospital.

The grand jury will continue meeting today because it was unable to finish reviewing the cases it received Tuesday.
