WILLIAM BYRD ROLLS PAST CAVALIERS

William Byrd got 19 points from David Robertson and the Terriers rolled to 64-45 Blue Ridge District victory over Lord Botetourt in boys' basketball Tuesday night.

Lord Botetourt (6-13 overall, 1-8 in the district), which had 25 turnovers, cut a nine-point deficit in the first quarter to three points late in the second quarter, but consecutive turnovers helped the Terriers gain a six-point halftime lead.

Lord Botetourt had consecutive turnovers to end the third quarter that led to William Byrd scores. The Terriers pulled away when Lord Botetourt tried to rally with 3-pointers. The Cavaliers were 1-for-17 from behind the line.

Donald Childress scored 17 and Bobby Milliron had 12 for Byrd (13-5, 5-3). Jeff Cronise had 11 points for Lord Botetourt.

Parry McCluer 60 James River 54

BUENA VISTA - Nathan Baker and Brian Sizemore combined for 34 points as the Fighting Blues ended their season with a Pioneer District victory.

Parry McCluer finished 13-6 overall and 8-4 in the district, good for second place. James River is 8-12 and 6-5.

Romond Waldron had 14, Jody Steger 12 and Troy Thompson 10 for the Knights.

Patrick Henry 66 Franklin County 57

Shannon Taylor scored 27 points as the Patriots toppled the visiting Eagles in a Roanoke Valley District game.

Moe Preston added 14 points for Patrick Henry (3-16, 2-6), including nine in the second quarter, when the Patriots outscored the Eagles 25-10. Vince McGhee grabbed 10 rebounds.

Derek Bryant had 13 points and Charles Holland 10 for Franklin County (9-10, 3-4).

Holy Cross 86 Roanoke Catholic 65

The Gaels rolled up a 53-24 halftime lead and routed the Celtics in a Virginia Independent Conference game.

Preston Snell led four Holy Cross players in double figures with 31 points.

Holy Cross (19-7) forced 12 first-half turnovers and led by 18 after the first quarter. Roanoke Catholic (4-23, 2-12) finished with 20 turnovers.

Lucas Lesniak had 18, Brian Lightner 13 and David Ashwell 11 for Holy Cross. Greg Broderick led Roanoke Catholic with 22, Mike Kolnok had 14 and Mike Clark 11.

North Cross 81 Carlisle 52

Tyler Pugh scored 16 points as the Raiders romped over the Chiefs to capture the Southern Division of the Virginia Independent Conference title.

North Cross (20-5, 13-1) led 35-26 at halftime and coasted to the win. Montie Smith had 11 points and Hal Johnson scored 10 and had eight assists. Mike Bryan grabbed 13 rebounds.

Henry Haskins led Carlisle (2-19, 1-12) with 18 points.
