YOKOHAMA WORKER GUILTY OF BATTERY
A supervisor at Yokohama Tire Corp. in Salem was found guilty of battery Tuesday as the result of a dispute with an employee in December.Salem General District Judge George Harris suspended all but $50 of a $500 fine against Mike Baughman and placed him on probation for a year.
Lewis Merchant Jr., a worker on the midnight-to-8 a.m. shift at the tire plant, accused Baughman of assault and battery. He said Baughman shoved him with his shoulder and hassled him about not working after Merchant's tire machine broke down about 1:30 a.m. on Dec. 11.
Baughman denied that he touched Merchant. He said he would appeal the ruling.
