PRISON OFFICIALS WANT 7 CHARGED IN ATTACK
Prison officials said Tuesday they plan to file charges against seven inmates they say attacked guards and raided the commissary during a disturbance at the Keen Mountain Correctional Center.Operations officer Sam Traverse said corrections officials plan to file institutional and criminal charges against the inmates after they finish interviewing witnesses and identify all prisoners involved in the attack.
The seven inmates have been transferred to Mecklenburg Correctional Center.
About 300 of the 750 inmates at the prison refused to return to their cells last Wednesday after guards began strictly enforcing a policy limiting the number of inmates allowed in specific areas.
