OBIT FARISS, CARL GREGORY
FARISS, Carl Gregory, 72, of Hillsville, died Tuesday, February 16, 1993.
He was a member of Round Knob Baptist Church, where he served as deacon. He
was Associate Chaplain of Hillsville Lodge #193 AF & AM at the time of his
illness. He served in the Army in World War II and was a recipient of the
Purple Heart. Survivors include his wife, Hazel Banks Fariss; two sons and
daughters-in-law, Jim and Karen Fariss, Roanoke, Greg and Kathryn Fariss,
Hillsville; three sisters, Mary George, Rural Hall, N.C., Kitty Tilley and
Virginia Parker, both of Mt. Airy, N.C.; six grandchildren, Todd, Tim, Sarah
and Mary Beth Fariss, all of Roanoke, Kellie and Jenna Fariss, both of
Hillsville. Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, February 18, 1993, at
2 p.m. at the Round Knob Baptist Church, with the Rev. Omer Vass officiating.
Burial will follow in the Heath Banks Cemetery. The family will receive
friends Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel,
Hillsville. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to the
Round Knob Baptist Church Building Fund, Fancy Gap, Va. 24328. Masonic Rites
will be conducted by the Hillsville Masonic Lodge #193.
