OBIT SUTHERLAND, FREDRICK WILLIAM, ("FRED")

SUTHERLAND, Fredrick William, ("Fred"), 72, of Wytheville, died Monday, February 15, 1993 in the Wythe County Community Hospital. He was born in Wythe County, a son of the late Rush Brooks Sutherland and Kate Elizabeth Layne Sutherland. He was a member of the First Christian Church of Wytheville where he served as a deacon and was a member of Wytheville Masonic Lodge #82, A.F. & A.M. He was a retired employee of the U.S. Postal Service and a member of the Postal Clerks Union. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and was preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth J. Sutherland. He is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Patricia Lynn and Scott Aker of Wytheville, Va.; three sisters, Virginia Patterson, Martha Irvin, both of Wytheville, Va, Mildred Shelton of Williamsburg, Va.; three brothers, Raymond Sutherland, R. B. Sutherland, both of Wytheville, Va., Henry Sutherland of Wheeling, W. Va.; two brothers-in-law, Edsel Jones, James Jones, both of Wytheville, Va. Funeral services will be held Thursday, February 18, 1993, at 11 a.m. at the Barnett Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Robert Peterson officiating. Entombment will follow in the Sunset Memory Gardens Mausoleum in Rural Retreat. The family will receive friends at the Barnett Funeral Home from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday. Barnett Funeral Home in Wytheville, Va. is in charge of the arrangements.
