ASIAN AMERICAN WEEK AT VA. TECH

The Asian-American Student Association and Asian Organizations at Virginia Tech are sponsoring Asian-American Awareness Week through Saturday.

This is the first celebration of its kind at Tech, and the organizations hope to continue it annually.

This year's event coincides with the 51st anniversary of the signing of the executive order that put Japanese-Americans in internment camps during World War II. The week includes several events - a fashion and talent show, a speech by Vice Admiral Robert K.U. Kihune and a dance party.

Kihune will speak tonight at 8 in the Commonwealth Ballroom of Squires Student Center on the challenges that face Asian-Americans in the 1990s.

On Saturday, a dance party will take place at Greeks Restaurant in Blacksburg. The event, which will feature Asian and American songs, will begin at 9:30 p.m. Admission is $2.
