SALEM CLINCHES TIE IN DISTRICT

Josh Pugh, Nathan Routt and Mark Byington combined for 65 points as Salem romped past Rockbridge County 104-73 in a Blue Ridge District boys' basketball game in Lexington on Tuesday.

Combined with Alleghany's 70-65 loss at Northside, the victory enabled Salem (15-3 overall, 7-2 Blue Ridge), ranked fifth in the latest Group AA poll, to clinch at least a tie for the district's regular-season title. Salem leads Alleghany and Northside by one game with one league game to go and needs to beat Lord Botetourt on Friday for the school's first basketball title.
