PINCUS, DAY WANT TO STAY ON BOARD
Roanoke School Board Chairman Finn Pincus and Vice Chairman Charles Day announced Wednesday that they will seek reappointment to the board. Both Pincus and Day were appointed to the board in 1990. Their three-year terms end June 30.
Pincus, former director of the Electronic Computer Programming Institute in Roanoke, is head coach of the Roanoke College cross-country and track team. He also is working on a doctorate in higher education administration at Virginia Tech.
"The biggest job of any school board is the selection and hiring of a superintendent," Pincus said. "In order for the process to continue smoothly, I think it's important that Charles and I are part of the transition time for our new superintendent."
Day is a former principal at Loudon Elementary and Ruffner Junior High schools, associate principal at Patrick Henry High and principal and coach at Lucy Addison Middle School when it was a high school.
"I enjoy what I'm doing and I want to continue making a contribution to the youth of our fair city," Day said.
The city clerk's office started accepting applications for School Board seats now held by Pincus and Day last month. The deadline for applications is March 10. To date, Pincus and Day are the only applicants.
