OBIT JONES, JACKSON SHANNON, ("LT. COL. RET.")

JONES, Jackson Shannon, ("Lt. Col. Ret."), 77, of Radford, passed away Monday, February 15, 1993, in Ft. Myers, Fla. Born in Washington, D.C., he lived in Radford and Christiansburg, was a graduate of George Washington University, and was a member of The Presbyterian Church of Radford. Lt. Col. (Ret.) Jones retired from the U.S. Army after 23 years service. He served from 1961 to 1964 as commanding officer of the Radford Army Ammunition Plant, retiring as manager from the Virginia Employment Commission in Radford and then moving to Florida in 1982. He was also involved with the New River Community Action, Inc., was a member of Kiwanis International of Radford and the American Legion, and was president and founder of N.R.C. Corporation. He was an elder of The Presbyterian Church of Radford and also served as treasurer for 15 years. Survivors include his wife, Vera C. Jones of N. Ft. Myers, Fla., and also of Radford; two daughters, Jacqueline J. Cochran of Arlington, Deborah J. Jonas of Max Meadows; one stepdaughter, Rhonda J. Santor, Bradenton, Fla.; one stepson, John D. Jolley, Washington, D.C.; and eight grandchildren. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Friday at The Presbyterian Church of Radford with the Rev. George L. Ducker officiating. Interment will follow in Sunrise Burial Park in Radford where members of the 85th EVAC from Ft. Lee, Va., will conduct military graveside rites. The family will receive friends from 7 until 9 p.m. Thursday at the Seaver-Sanders & Mullins Funeral Home in Radford. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to the American Cancer Society or to the Organ Fund of The Presbyterian Church of Radford.
