VALLEY JV WRESTLING TOURNAMENT DRAWS 140
More than 140 individuals from seven high schools participated in the first Roanoke Valley Junior Varsity wrestling tournament at Northside High School.Northside was the winner with 261 points and six individual champions. Franklin County High placed second with 176 1/2 points and two champions. Other team leaders were Cave Spring, 166 points and two champions; William Fleming, 132 and two champions; William Byrd, 92 1/2; and Brookville, 80 1/2 and one champion.
"We hope to make this an annual event," said Northside coach Fred Wagner, tournament organizer. "All other sports have some type of junior varsity competition, and we think wrestling deserves one of its own."
