FAITH ALLIANCE CHURCH, 7505 Barrens Road, Hollins, will hear missionaries from Colombia and Gabon for its annual missions conference Feb. 27 through March 4.

John Brokopp and Beverly Boon represent 13,000 Christian workers in 54 countries that Alliance members support. Details of service times may be obtained by calling 366-1864.

\ THE CARPENTER'S TOOLS, a Roanoke Valley gospel group, will present a program Sunday night at 7 at Grace United Methodist Church, 4404 Williamson Road N.W. An offering will be taken, and those attending are asked to bring a donation of commercially canned food. Special music and a congregational sing will be featured at the 10:30 a.m. service.

\ A BLACK HISTORY MUSICAL, featuring the Christian Praise Ensemble and the E.T. Burton Choir, is scheduled Feb. 28 at 4 p.m. at First Baptist Church, 310 N. Jefferson St. An ethnic food reception will follow.

\ WES CHAPPELL AND PETE HASTINGS, members of No Strings Attached, will present the Third-Sunday Music Program at Windsor Hills United Methodist Church, Mudlick and Windsor roads Southwest, Sunday at the 10:45 a.m.

\ KATHERINE J. REIER will leave the staff of Christ Lutheran Church as organist and choir director effective Sunday The musician, who also is employed as a registered nurse, will be honored at both the 8:30 and 11 a.m. services.

She has been on the staff for eight years and active in the Roanoke Chapter of the American Guild of Organists.

\ WEST END UNITED METHODIST CHURCH, 13th Street and Campbell Ave. Southwest, will observe Missions Sunday on Feb. 28 with Michael and Lori Camp, workers in Malawi, visiting at 9:15 and 10:30 a.m. The couple will present a video at the education hour and speak for morning worship. Luncheon will follow.

\ JESUS' PRAYER LIFE as revealed in Luke's Gospel is the theme of a Wednesday morning Bible study at Cave Spring United Methodist Church, 4505 Hazel Drive S.W. Led by former staff member the Rev. Linda Kusse-Wolfe, it is in session for the community from 10 until 11:30.

\ TWO FORMER PASTORS, J. Edward Stockman and George Bowers, will be honored in the naming of a new addition to St. Mark's Lutheran Church in Old Southwest Roanoke.

The wing at the rear will bear the name of Stockman, who served in the post-World War II years. Bowers, who still lives in the Roanoke Valley, will have the library/conference room named for him.

\ JOSEPH H. KENNEDY has resigned as director of music and organist at Virginia Heights Baptist Church after more than 13 years on the staff. He will take a similar job at South Roanoke United Methodist Church following his March 6 departure from Virginia Heights.

He succeeds Verle H. Witmer, who left several months ago after 25 years on the staff, at South Roanoke. Witmer is now interim music director at Campbell Memorial Presbyterian in Vinton.

\ GRANDVIEW HEIGHTS CHURCH OF THE NAZARENE, 2308 Highland Road S.E., has scheduled an evening of gospel music at 7 on March 6. The Kingerys and The Fellowship Trio will be featured.

An offering will be taken.

\ THE SOUTHERN STATESMEN gospel group will perform March 6 at 7 p.m. at Ninth Street Church of the Brethren, 1103 Ninth St. S.E. The program is free.

\ THE REV. LEE LEWIS, pastor of Morning Star Baptist Church, will preach during community revival services at People's Baptist Church, 617 Twine Hollow Road, Monday through Feb. 25. The host church and Big Hill, First Baptist of Elliston and Shawsville Baptist churches are sponsoring the 7:30 p.m. services. Call 380-4013 for more information.

\ ROBERT JEFFREY ETHRIDGE will be ordained to the gospel ministry Sunday at 7 p.m. at Salem Baptist Church, his home congregation. Ethridge, a graduate of Mid-America Baptist Seminary, now is pastor of Iron Gate Baptist Church.

\ A CHILDREN'S MUSICAL,"O Jonah," will be presented Feb. 28 at 10 a.m. at St. Paul's Episcopal Church in downtown Salem. Directed by Rebecca W. Goodwin, it will include members of the Chorister and Cambridge junior choirs and is open to the public.

\ A COLUMBARIUM to contain the ashes of cremated members of St. Paul's Episcopal Church has been completed and will be dedicated in several weeks. Niches are in the west wall of the church in downtown Salem and are part of a meditation garden dominated by a metal-crafted cross to match the church's steeple.

The columbarium was designed by William Freeman, who has planned those of several other Western Virginia churches, and was built by the firm of church member Wayne Campbell.

\ AN INTERRACIAL FELLOWSHIP, sponsored by United Methodists of the Roanoke District and open ecumenically, will supply a van for travel to Blacksburg Monday to hear poet Maya Angelou.

\ WOMEN'S AGLOW members will hear B.D. Hyman, author of "My Mother's Keeper," at their meeting Wednesday from 9:30 a.m. to noon at the Woodmen of the World Building, 2306 Peters Creek Road N.W.

\ STEVE GREEN, nationally traveled Christian musician, will be at First Baptist Church on Third Street Southwest March 7 at 7 p.m. The $5 tickets are available at the Baptist Book Store.

\ BETHLEHEM BIBLE COLLEGE, which offers evening classes to enhance spiritual growth, will observe Founders Day Feb. 27 at 7 p.m. with a program at Hill Street Baptist Church, 111 Madison Ave. N.W.

The Rev. Frank Feather of Forest Park Baptist Church will speak. Special music also will be presented.

\ AFRICAN-AMERICAN MUSIC of the gospel tradition will be performed Feb. 25 at 7 p.m. in Whitman Auditorium of Virginia Western Community College. Among the performers will be the Inspirational Choir of Garden of Prayer 6 of Roanoke, Gladys Dickerson of Rocky Mount and the Community Choir of the Roanoke County community of Kingstown.

The concert is free and is sponsored for Black History Month by the Minority Affairs Committee and the Black Student Organization at the college.

\ CHRISTIAN MARRIAGE will be the theme of a retreat for couples April 16-18 at Camp Alta Mons Center near Shawsville. A United Methodist trained couple, Dick and Pat Faris, who have led similar retreats throughout the Virginia Conference, will lead the group.

Cost of the three-day event is $115. The retreat, intended for couples with stable marriages, will be from 7 p.m. Friday through lunch Sunday. Call 989-3335 before April 1 for registration information.

\ A PRAYER BREAKFAST, from 9 to 11 a.m., is planned Feb. 27 at First United Methodist Church in downtown Salem. Sponsored by the Roanoke District of United Methodist Women, it will include a message by Nancy Wheeler, program director at St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Salem.

The $4.75 cost will be donated to a program for the emergency care of Virginia children. Call 774-5729 by Friday for reservation.
