SALEM OUTLASTS NORTH CROSS IN BASKETBALL

Josh Pugh and Mark Byington combined for 20 points in the fourth quarter Thursday night to lead Salem to a 93-84 victory over North Cross in non-district high school boys' basketball.

The Spartans (16-3) overcame third-quarter foul trouble and a North Cross surge to hold off the Raiders (20-6).

North Cross pulled to 64-63 in the third quarter, but the Spartans regained their composure and pulled ahead to stay.

Byington led all scorers with 29 points, and Pugh contributed 11 of his 27 in the fourth quarter. Shawn McMahan chipped in 15 points.

North Cross got 18 points from Mike Bryan, 17 from Monty Smith, 14 from Marcus Cardwell and 12 each from Tyler Pugh and Aaron Marley. \
