PUSH REALLY DOES COME TO SHOVE
Robert Wright was a man with a purpose Friday. It's just that his purpose - moving a refrigerator from his late father's home in Vinton to a swap shop on 13th Street in Roanoke that had bought it for $45 - was complicated by a lack of a truck.
No problem for Wright.
He put his shoulder to the wheel, or in this case, an old Frigidaire, and pushed it the three miles.
The chore took him about four hours - he says he had to ease his load down one hill backwards to keep it from getting away from him. But he insisted he wasn't tuckered out. "It's not heavy. It's just hard to get it up on my shoulder sometimes."
Besides, Wright says, last week he pushed a bathtub along the same route. "Everybody said I couldn't do it," Wright says. "I said, `Just watch me.' "
