PSA SEEKING SOLID-WASTE STATION SITE
The Joint Public Service Authority of Wythe and Bland counties will offer $248,000 to buy 20 acres for a solid-waste transfer-station site. The property on Virginia 649 across from the Pendleton rock quarry is owned by B.C. Umberger. The offer is based on an appraisal by Dewey Robertson & Associates of Roanoke.
Construction costs are estimated at $500,000, with money coming from the sale of bonds. The authority will negotiate with interested companies before choosing one to transport solid waste from Wythe and Bland after local landfills close later this year.
