OBIT REYNOLDS, THOMAS EDWARD
REYNOLDS, Thomas Edward, 78, of 2515 Reynolds Drive, Fincastle, died
February 18, 1993 in a local hospital. He was a member of and a deacon
emeritus of Bonsack Baptist Church. He retired from the purchasing and
materials management department of the N&W Railway in 1976, after 37 years of
service. Surviving are his wife, Eileen Black Reynolds; sons and
daughters-in-law, Wayne and Edwina Reynolds, Hardy, Rodger and Esther
Reynolds, Troutville, Richard T. Reynolds, Roanoke; Michael C. and Pat
Reynolds, Vinton, Rodney D. and Becky Reynolds, Danville; six grandchildren,
Todd, Eric, Jason, Elana, Leanna, Chelsea Reynolds; brother, Kenneth Reynolds;
sisters, Ruth Reynolds Crawford and Dorothy Reynolds Gowen. He was extremely
active in the International Association of Lions Clubs, from a community level
to an international level, serving as zone chairman, deputy district governor,
district governor, and as past district governor of Lions International. The
Lions of Virginia elected him as their state secretary and state treasurer. He
was honored and distinguished by Lions International in 1988 by receiving the
international leadership award. In 1989 he had 40 years of perfect attendance
in the Lions Club of Troutville. Mr. Reynolds was interested and active in the
educational school system in Botetourt County. He served as president of both
Troutville and Lord Botetourt High School PTA, as well as of the Botetourt
Council of the PTA. It was during this time that the citizens of Botetourt
County voted to consolidate their high schools. He had the honor of naming the
Lord Botetourt High School. He served on the board of managers of the Virginia
Congress of PTA and held life memberships in that organization. The Roanoke
Chamber of Commerce in 1972 choose Mr. Reynolds as father of the year in civic
affairs in the Roanoke Valley. In 1971, the Botetourt County Chamber of
Commerce declared him the County's most outstanding citizen. He served as
chairman of Botetourt County, 1970 Bicentennial Commission. A memorial and
worship service will be conducted from the Bonsack Baptist Church at 2 p.m.
Sunday with the Rev. Dr. Robert G. Moore III officiating. Friends may call at
Oakey's North Chapel from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday. Burial will be
in Troutville Cemetery at 10:45 a.m. Monday.
