LYNCHBURG COLLEGE NAMES PRESIDENT

Charles O. Warren Jr., currently president of the State University of New York College at Plattsburgh, has been selected as the ninth president of Lynchburg College.

Warren will start July 1, according to Frank H. Buhler, chairman of the presidential search committee and the Lynchburg College Board of Trustees. Buhler made the announcement following a meeting of the board Saturday.

Warren "brings great liberal arts traditions and focus to the job," Buhler said.

Warren, 53, was selected from more than 140 applicants. He was one of two candidates invited last month to visit the campus of the 2,400-student private college.

A native of Bluefield, W.Va., Warren received his bachelor's and master's degrees from Virginia Tech and his doctorate from the University of Florida. He has been president of the New York school since 1987.

Warren will succeed George N. Rainsford, president of Lynchburg College since 1983. Rainsford, 65, announced last year that he intended to retire at the end of the 1992-93 school year.
