DAY SCORES 41 IN RADFORD WIN
Doug Day scored 41 points, including eight 3-pointers, as Radford picked up a 98-87 win over host Winthrop in Big South Conference basketball Saturday night.Day, the NCAA's all-time leading 3-point shooter, had 28 points and seven of his 3-pointers in the first half .
"When he's on one of those streaks, you just sit there and watch," Radford coach Ron Bradley said. "I thought we did a good job of finding him when he was open, and it just opened everything else up for us."
It was the second-highest scoring output in school history. Day has the record of 43 set against Central Connecticut State two years ago.
Tom Gallaher added 18 points for the Highlanders (13-14 overall, 7-7 Big South).
Radford overcame a 22-14 first-half deficit, and the teams were tied at 47 at halftime.
Winthrop (11-12, 5-8) was led by LaShawn Coulter with 23 points. Sophomore Mike Fayed, a former Cave Spring standout, had 11 assists for the Eagles.
