TECH WINS METRO TRACK MEET
Travis Walter won the 3,000 meters and the 5,000 meters to lead Virginia Tech men's team to the championship of the Metro Conference indoor track meet in Blacksburg on Saturday.Virginia Tech had 157 points. Virginia Commonwealth had 88, followed by Southern Mississippi (85), South Florida (76), Tulane (43), Louisville (34) and North Carolina-Charlotte (12).
In the women's meet, Virginia Commonwealth won with 118.5 points. Tulane was second with 79.5, followed by Virginia Tech (69), South Florida (56), UNC Charlotte (44), Louisville (35) and Southern Mississippi (31). VCU's Tanya Williams won the 55 meters and the 200 meters.
In other track:
Estaban Frost won the 200- and 400-meter dashes to help VMI win the men's Southern Conference indoor track and field championship in Lexington.
VMI finished with 133 points for its second conference championship in three years and 18th title overall. East Tennessee finished second with 105.
