BIG RALLY LIFTS VCU 95-91
Kenny Harris scored 24 points in the final 9:45 of regulation and added six in overtime Saturday to lead Virginia Commonwealth to a 95-91 Metro Conference basketball victory over South Florida.Harris made six 3-pointers down the stretch as the Rams (15-7 overall, 5-4 Metro) rallied from a 26-point deficit. Harris led all scorers with 30 points, including six 3-pointers.
South Florida (6-16, 1-8) broke the game open by ending the first half on an 11-0 run and beginning the second half with a 23-10 burst
After opening a 67-41 lead with 10:25 remaining, the Bulls faltered. Harris sank three 3-pointers in about two minutes, spurring a 16-2 run and trimming the South Florida lead to 69-57.
Sherron Mills scored nine of his 24 points during a 15-4 run, ending in a 3-point play to pull the Rams to 78-77.
South Florida led 85-80 with 17 seconds left, but Harris made a layup and Chris Brower nailed a leaning 3-pointer at the buzzer to force overtime.
South Florida was led by Chuckie Atkins with 25 points and Derrick Sharp with 24. \

RICHMOND - William Davis scored 19 points and the Dukes gained the upper hand in the Colonial Athletic Association race with the victory over the Spiders.
The Dukes (17-7, 9-3) held off a late Richmond rally to complete a regular-season sweep of the Spiders. James Madison can claim the top seed for the CAA tournament by winning its final two league games. Richmond (12-10, 8-3) lost its third straight game.
The Dukes took control with a 17-2 run midway through the first half that made it 26-12. James Madison reserves had 13 points in the surge, including six from Paul Carter and five from Michael Venson.
The Spiders used a 14-3 run in the second half to get back in it, and they cut their deficit to four points five times, the last at 67-63 on a 3-pointer by Kenny Wood with 1:52 left.
Richmond missed its next two shots, and James Madison got a free throw from Bryan Edwards and a dunk from Clayton Ritter to make it 70-63 with 59 seconds remaining.
Richmond got no closer than 76-73 on Chris Fleming's 3-pointer with nine seconds to go. \

WILMINGTON, N.C. - Todd Cauthorn and Kurt Small each scored 21 points as the Tribe took advantage of the foul-plagued Seahawks for a Colonial Athletic Association victory.
William and Mary (13-10, 5-6) led 54-38 at halftime after outshooting the Seahawks 53 percent (32-of-59) to 44 percent (27-of-65) from the field.
In the second half, UNC Wilmington (15-9, 5-7) cooled to 40 percent shooting and the Seahawks were hamstrung as five players fouled out, including four starters. William and Mary made 56 percent in the second half.
Cauthorn, who played at Alleghany High School near Covington, Va., had 12 rebounds for the Tribe. Keith Adkins led UNC Wilmington with 24 points before fouling out with 28 seconds left. \

WASHINGTON - Mark McGlone and Derek Shackelford combined for nine of George Mason's final 11 points as the Patriots roared to a 15-point lead, then held on for the Colonial Athletic Association victory over the Eagles.
The Patriots (7-18, 2-10) have won two straight since snapping a 14-game losing streak. American (9-14, 6-6) has dropped two in a row.
George Mason went on a 10-2 run to help build a 36-29 lead at halftime, then scored six of the first eight points of the second half to increase the lead to 42-31. The Patriots led by 15 points with 10:57 remaining before American began its comeback.
Roanoke's Troy Manns paced the Patriots with 14 points and four assists. Brian Gilgeous paced the Eagles with 31 points and nine rebounds. \

LYNCHBURG - Julius Nwosu scored 21 points, including a bucket that put Liberty (15-11, 9-6) ahead for keeps with 4:47 remaining, as the Flames beat UMBC in the Big South Conference.
Nwosu's layup came after Maryland-Baltimore County (10-14, 6-8) went on an 11-0 run to lead for the first time in the second half with five points each from Sonique Nixon and Skip Saunders. The 2 1/2-minute run made it 68-67 for the Retrievers with 5:21 left.
Nwosu followed the layup with two free throws, but Maryland-Baltimore County's Brian Watkins made a layup with 12 seconds left to close it to 82-81.

GREENVILLE, N.C. - Keith Jackson scored 16 points and Mario Mullen added 15 as the Monarchs rolled past the Pirates.
East Carolina (9-15) outshot Old Dominion 44 percent to 37 percent to take a 29-27 halftime advantage. But the Monarchs (17-6) went on a 7-0 run to break a 50-50 tie midway through the second half.
Former Laurel Park standout Odell Hodge added 10 points and nine rebounds for the Monarchs. \

Eastern Mennonite 57
EMORY - Former Northside standout Derek Elmore scored 15 points, and Emory & Henry's defense limited Eastern Mennonite to 39 percent shooting as the Wasps beat the Royals in an Old Dominion Athletic Conference game.
Emory & Henry (21-3, 16-2) had a 43-22 halftime lead. The Wasps forced Eastern Mennonite (7-17, 5-13) into 26 turnovers, including 14 steals and six blocked shots. The Royals were 21-of-54 from the field.
Vaughn Troyer led Eastern Mennonite with 30 points and 10 rebounds. \

NORFOLK - Walt Lassiter scored 26 points and had eight steals as the Marlins (16-8, 12-6) downed the Hornets (5-19, 3-15) in the ODAC. Lynchburg shot 53 percent from the floor. Virginia Wesleyan shot 44 percent overall, forced 26 turnovers and got 20 steals. Anthony Cummings led Lynchburg with 22 points. \

BRIDGEWATER - Dan Rush scored 12 points and Bridgewater (12-11, 10-8) took control of the game in the final three minutes as the Eagles beat Guilford (10-13, 7-11) for an ODAC victory. \

\ Christopher Newport 83, N.C. Wesleyan 63: At Newport News, Steve Artis scored 24 points to lead the Captains (20-4, 8-2) to the Dixie Conference victory over the Battlin' Bishops (10-13, 3-7). The Captains held a 42-25 rebounding advantage and shot 52 percent to Wesleyan's 44. Keith Robinson led the Bishops with 17 points.
\ Virginia Union 108, Dist. of Columbia 61: At Richmond, Robert McKie scored 18 points as the defending Division II champion Panthers controlled the rebounding, used a smothering defense and scored at will. Virginia Union (23-2) had a 51-24 rebounding advantage, forced the District of Columbia (3-21) into 29 turnovers and shot 53 percent (42 of 78) from the field.
\ York, Pa. 81, Mary Washington 78: At Fredericksburg, Jeff Mann scored six of his 41 points in overtime as York (17-7, 8-4) won the Capital Athletic Conference game. Mary Washington (7-17, 4-8) saw its final shot in the overtime, a 3-pointer by Richie Treger, rim out at the buzzer.
