HOLLINS' WOMEN SWIMMERS AMONG WINNERS AT RADFORD

Swimmers made a big splash in three meets at Radford.

Hollins won the Old Dominion Athletic Conference Women's swimming championship. Hollins had 708 points, followed by Sweet Briar at 654, Washington and Lee at 606 and Randolph-Macon Woman's College at 337.

Radford won the nine-team Atlantic States Championships women's meet. The Highlanders had 583 points, followed by Washington and Lee with 565 and Hollins with 492. W&L freshman Rebekah Prince was voted the meet's outstanding swimmer.

In the men's Atlantic States Championships, Radford won, followed by the University of North Carolina Club team and Lynchburg. Adam Fitzgerald of the UNC club team was chosen the outstanding swimmer.

Washington and Lee won 17 of the 18 ODAC women's events - none of the eight Generals entered the 100-yard freestyle - but points are accumulated through total placings and W&L was hurt by its lack of depth.

For the Generals, Prince won 100 backstroke, 200 backstroke and 200 individual medley; senior Claire Dudley won the 50 freestyle, 100 breaststroke and 200 breast stroke; sophomore Susan Fisher won the 400 individual medley, 100 butterfly and 200 butterfly; and sophomore Brandi Henderson won the 200 freestyle, 500 freestyle and 1,650 freestyle. W&L won all five relay races.

Prince's 200 backstroke time qualified for the NCAA Division III meet in Atlanta next month.
