STORM OVERWHELMS RAMPAGE; ROAD LOSS STREAK REACHES 26
If nothing else, the Roanoke Valley Rampage is consistent.On Sunday night, the Rampage continued its record string of East Coast Hockey League road losses, falling 10-1 to the Toledo Storm before a crowd of 4,839.
Roanoke Valley has lost 26 consecutive ECHL games on the road. The Rampage is 1-26-1 on the road, with its victory over the Johnstown Chiefs on Oct. 31.
Sunday night's game was payback for Toledo, which lost 4-3 in a shootout at Vinton on Feb. 12.
The Storm took command quickly, getting its first goal 2 minutes, 14 seconds into the game from John Johnson. Six other players added a goal in the period, which ended with the Storm ahead 7-0.
Toledo went up 8-0 about 5:15 into the second period on Jeff Jablonski's goal, then Ken House put in Roanoke Valley's goal nine seconds later on assists From Chris Smith and Joe Dragon.
Alex Hicks, who had three goals and three assists, scored Toledo's final two goals to make it 10-1.
\ ICE CHIPS: Toledo (31-14-11) leads the Western Division, by four points over Dayton (32-19-5). . . . The Rampage lost three games in three days on its trip through Ohio (Dayton, Columbus, Toledo). . . . The loss was the fourth in a row for Roanoke Valley (12-41-1), loser of 26 of its past 28 overall. . . . On the road, Roanoke Valley has been outscored 197-90, averaging 7.0 goals per game for host teams and 3.2 for Roanoke Valley. . . .
