OBIT BLAIR, CHARLES M. JR. ("JACK")

BLAIR, Charles M. Jr. ("Jack"), 73, of Roanoke, died Saturday, February 20, 1993. He was a member of Williamson Road Lodge #163 A.F.&A.M., Past Worshipful Master of Webber High Twelve Lodge. He was also a member of Kazim Temple of Shrine A.A.O.N.M.S. and Scottish Rite. Mr. Blair was a member of Vinton V.F.W. Post and was past president of the Williamson Road Kiwanis Club and the Roanoke Valley Association of Chartered Life Underwriters. Active in scouting, he served as Cub Master and Scout Master of Troop #209. Mr. Blair was a World War II veteran, being a retired chief petty officer in the U.S. Navy. He served submarine staff under Admiral R. W. Christie-Pacific Commander. He attended VPI prior to his navy career and in later years attended Roanoke College to earn C.L.U. designation. Mr. Blair was a founding member and past board member at Blue Hills Club. He was also a member, past deacon and past Sunday school teacher at Airlee Court Baptist Church. Surviving are his wife, Ethel S. Blair; his children, E. C. (Chuck) Blair and wife, Carol of Fox Chapel, Pa., Carol Blair of Gaithersburg, Md., Barry L. Blair and wife, Debra of Jonesborough, Tenn.; grandchildren, Mary Beth Blair and Laura Blair; three brothers, Wallace Blair, Vinton, Otey Blair, Frederick, Md., John Blair, Poquoson, Va.; one sister, Helen B. Grewe, Novato, Calif. Funeral services will be conducted from Airlee Court Baptist Church, 1 p.m. Tuesday. The Rev. Eugene Burris will officiate. Interment will follow in the Liberty Christian Church Cemetery, Pittsylvania County, Va. at 3 p.m. Masonic rites by Webber High Twelve. Memorials may be made to the Hospice Program of Roanoke Memorial Hospital or Airlee Court Baptist Church. The family will receive friends at Oakey's North Chapel from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday.
