SECURITY LET HIJACKER PASS - FOR $54
A man who hijacked a Russian airliner with two hand grenades said Monday he paid $54 in bribes to avoid security checks at a Russian airport, the Swedish national news agency TT reported.The Russian news agency ITAR-Tass reported that an airport employee was arrested in the hijacking in Tyumen, the western Siberian city where the flight originated.
Musayev, 27, commandeered the Tu-134 airliner Saturday to Stockholm via Tallinn, Estonia. His wife, Marina, 26, and 8-month-old daughter were aboard.
Musayev said he wanted to go to the United States but could not afford a ticket. Negotiators persuaded him to surrender in Stockholm. None of the 72 people aboard was injured.
