WYTHE DROPS RURAL RETREAT IN 1ST ROUND

At Wytheville, sophomore forward Andre Cook scored 14 points to help George Wythe defeat Rural Retreat 59-49 in a first-round game of the Hogoheegee District boys' basketball tournament Monday.

J.J. Sheffey, a senior forward, added 13 points on 6-of-7 field goal shooting for the Maroons (15-7). For the Indians (3-18), center Steven Pratt scored 16, Bradley Guynn 12, Michael Houseman 11 and Bo Lethco 10.

George Wythe will meet the winner of tonight's game between Castlewood and Northwood.
