RADFORD GIVES SCHOOL POSITION TO ADMINISTRATOR OF MANY HATS

Veteran Radford school administrator Randy Wright has yet another hat to wear.

The 50-year-old educator, who already is director of elementary curriculum, director of vocational education and director of transportation, has been appointed acting assistant school superintendent.

Wright takes over the position left vacant by the resignation of Virginia East, who left the school system last month following her arrest on federal charges of possessing and passing counterfeit $100 bills at a factory outlet mall in Tennessee.

East has since entered a federal diversion program for first-time offenders with the possibility that charges eventually could be dropped.

Wright said Monday he was "sorry about the circumstances" leading to his interim appointment, but he was not surprised to get it since many of his regular duties overlap with those of the assistant superintendent's.

Wright said he expects to get a lot of help from Superintendent Michael Wright. They are not related. He also said he plans to apply for the job, which is scheduled to be advertised this week.

Superintendent Wright said Monday that the application deadline is March 15.

Randy Wright has been in the Radford school system for 28 years. He twice has been assistant principal at Radford High School. He has been an administrator in the system's front office for the past four years. Earlier in his career at Radford, he taught science and physical education and coached both football and baseball.
