DISASTER AGENCY ASKED TO CHANGE PRIORITIES
Lawmakers and citizens joined Monday in calls for the Federal Emergency Management Agency to shift its priorities toward preparing for natural disasters and away from preparing for nuclear war.The chairmen of House and Senate panels with responsibilities for overseeing the agency said they planned to question FEMA officials about their spending patterns at future hearings.
The calls for change stemmed from articles published Sunday that noted that over the past decade, FEMA has spent $12 on national security for every $1 spent on natural disaster preparations.
