COACH WHITE KNEW HIS DUTY AND DID IT
ALTHOUGH it was a no-win predicament for Coach Willis White and Salem school officials to protest the known illegal use of equipment in the play-off game with Richlands, it was their obligation to do so. The fact that Coach Vaughn, when first questioned, denied it and then admitted it after faced with irrefutable evidence, compounds the deceit. It was proper for Coach White to say it is wrong to send a message to the athletes that you can break the rules and win. It was wrong for the executive committee to question Coach White's role in reporting the infraction and mentioning that he had heard from a member of the Virginia High School League committee that it would not follow its rules of forfeiture before the official hearing.
