LAUREL PARK, TUNSTALL WIN

Khris Law and Tarrace Carter scored nine points each in the fourth quarter, sparking Tunstall to a come-from-behind 71-67 win over Fieldale-Collinsville in the first round of the Piedmont District boys' basketball tournament.

The fourth-seeded Trojans (13-9) will face regular-season champion and unbeaten Laurel Park in Thursday's semifinals at Bassett High.

The Lancers (21-0) cruised into the semifinals with an 83-42 pasting of eighth-seeded Bassett in Tuesday's opener.

Tunstall trailed 46-45 entering the fourth quarter. Then, Law and Carter, who finished with 24 and 23 points, respectively, took over.

Chris Walton added 12 points for the Trojans.

The fifth-seeded Cavaliers (14-7) were led by Kevin Hodge's 21 points. Lemuel Jones added 15 and Ben Seay 10 for Fieldale-Collinsville.

The Lancers, No. 1 among the state's Group AA teams, didn't work up a sweat against the Bengals. Laurel Park led 30-12 at halftime and cruised the rest of the way.

Ronnie Jackson paced the Lancers with 20 points. Carlos Cooke added 19, Lonzy Robertson 14 and Chauncey Strange 10.

Bassett (5-17) was paced by Darryle Hand's nine points. \

Hogoheegee District

\ Chilhowie 73, Patrick Henry-Glade Spring 63: At Chilhowie, Tim Polk scored 16 points, grabbed 15 rebounds and had 10 assists as the Warriors rolled past PH-Glade Spring in the first round.

The Rebels went up 20-12 in the first quarter, but Chilhowie (13-8) came back with a 12-2 run early in the second quarter. The Warriors sank 10 of 11 free throws in the fourth quarter for the win.

Shane Olinger lead the Warriors with 20 points. D.J. Preston scored 17 points and Andy Blevins scored 13.

John Hess led PH-Glade Spring (10-11) with 26 points.

Chilhowie will face the winner of the Holston-Lebanon game in a semifinal game Thursday at Emory and Henry. \

Monday's games

\ Bassett 87, Dan River 59: At Bassett, Darryle Hand scored 14 of his 20 points in the first half as the Bulldogs jumped to a 48-18 halftime lead in their victory over the Wildcats in the first round of the Piedmont District Tournament.

Tyree Hairston had 17 points for Bassett (5-16), and Artemus Wade and Chris Hagwood added 12 points each.

Dan River (4-17) was paced by Brian Gunn with 16 points and Claude Glenn with 10. \

\ Patrick County 64, Gretna 55: At Gretna, the Cougars outscored the Hawks 19-9 in the third quarter to rally their way to a first-round Piedmont tournament victory.

Gretna (5-16) led 30-22 at halftime, but Patrick County went on a 15-3 run in the third quarter to take a 41-39 lead.

Justin McHone had 13 of his 20 points in the second half, including two 3-pointers in an 8-0 fourth quarter run that put the Cougars up by seven points. Chris Reynolds also scored 20 and Jerome Hagwood added 10.

Gretna (5-16) was led by William Merritt with 18 points, Lamont Hubbard with 16 and Corey Boone with 12.

Patrick County takes on Martinsville tonight at 6 in Bassett. \
