NARROWS UPSETS GRAYSON COUNTY

Sean Harris scored 20 points and Patrick Bailey added 15 as eighth-seeded Narrows upset top-seeded Grayson County 61-50 in the first round of the Mountain Empire District boys' basketball tournament Tuesday night.

The Blue Devils (16-6) led by one point at halftime, but the Green Wave rolled over the Blue Devils 44-32 in the second half.

Mitch Hawks led Grayson County with 23 points.

Narrows (8-13) will face the winner of tonight's Auburn-Galax game at 6:30 p.m. Friday in Christiansburg.

In Region C competition, regular-season champion Grayson County will play the Pioneer District runner-up Tuesday at Christiansburg. \

In another Mountain Empire District game:

\ Floyd County 47, Giles 43: At Christiansburg, Michael Hylton scored 20 points as the Buffaloes upended the Spartans in overtime.

Floyd County led 21-16 at halftime, but Giles rallied in the third quarter, outscoring the Buffaloes 13-7. Floyd County (15-6) outscored the Spartans 13-12 in the fourth to force overtime. Patrick Steele scored 12 points and Mitch Reed and Joey Welton added 11 each to lead the Spartans. Giles finished its season 9-12.

Floyd County will face the winner of tonight's Fort Chiswell-Bland game at 8 p.m. Friday in Christiansburg. \

Roanoke Valley District girls

\ Franklin County 47, Patrick Henry 37: At Rocky Mount, Shannon Conley sank 8-of-8 free throws in the fourth quarter as the Eagles pulled away from the Patriots in first-round action.

The fourth-seeded Eagles (12-9) will face top-seeded Cave Spring in a semifinal game at 6 p.m. Thursday at William Fleming. PH ends its season at 1-20.

Conley finished with 14 points to lead the Eagles, who pulled away from a 24-24 tie after three quarters.
