INGLES DISTRICT SCHOOL BOARD NOMINEES SOUGHT
Nominations for the Pulaski County School Board seat now held by Ingles District representative Ron Chaffin will be received April 26 by the county Board of Supervisors.Chaffin is board chairman and is likely to be nominated for another term.
The board agreed Monday to schedule the hearing and then interview candidates for the seat at another meeting May 3.
County voters passed a referendum last year changing the method of School Board selection from appointment by the supervisors to direct election. But, unless the current General Assembly changes the existing law, no elections would occur before 1994 and then only if a vacancy occurs. The regular election time would be when the Board of Supervisors is next elected, in 1995.
The School Board has a sixth at-large seat in addition to representatives from each of the county's five magisterial districts. Supervisor Bruce Fariss suggested that the at-large seat be eliminated because, he said, it would be hard on anyone to run for election throughout the entire county.
