Lipizzaner Stallions return

Lipizzaner Stallions return

The Royal Lipizzaner Stallions return to Roanoke Civic Center for two shows on March 27. The "Wonderful World of Horses" tour features choreographed moves by more than 20 horses, showing off centuries of breeding and years of training.

The horses, descendants of those used by royalty as far back as the 1700s, are trained in classical horsemanship and perform many traditional war moves originally taught in battle preparation.

Show times are 2 and 8 p.m., and tickets cost $12.50 for adults with children 12 and under and senior citizens saving $2 per ticket.

Arts Council changes

The Arts Council of the Blue Ridge has appointed Judith Anne Diehl as its administrative assistant. Diehl is formerly administrator of the Miletree Health Care Facility in Spencer, W.Va.

Other staff changes include the promotion of Susan Jennings to director of programs and sciences. She chairs the Children's Art Center Project, a join effort between the Art Museum of Western Virginia and the Junior League of the Roanoke Valley. Jennings joined the arts council in 1992.

Band reunion planned

The Old Pros Big Band of New River Community College, celebrating its 20th anniversary this year, will present a reunion concert on March 28. Former members who would like to join in are invited. Call 921-1221 for more information.

The Old Pros was founded by a small group of musicians interested in preserving and playing the sounds of the Big Band era. It meets each Sunday from 7:30-9:30 p.m. at the college's T.J. Anderson Student Lounge from September through June for rehearsals.

Camp-in at museum

A Camp-In for fourth and fifth graders will be held March 6 at the Virginia Museum of Transportation on Norfolk Avenue in Roanoke.

Campers will learn about various forms of transportation through museum tours and hands-on projects. Entertainment will include arts and crafts, scavenger hunts and transportation-themed movies.

The camp will begin Saturday night at 7 and continue till Sunday morning at 8.

Supplies and snacks are included in the $25 fee. Space is limited. Call 342-5670.

Homeopathic session

Lexington's Homeopathic Study Group will host Susan Jeanchild and Karen Alderson at an open meeting Saturday from 1 to 5 p.m. at the Rockbridge Regional Library.

The homeopathic teachers will discuss basic definitions, treatment of sports injuries and first aid.

There is a $4 fee. Snow date is March 6. Call 463-3937.
