LEADERS WILL DISCUSS EDUCATIONAL FUTURE
The Southwest Virginia Public Educational Consortium will host a dinner March 11 at the Martha Washington Inn for educational leaders in the region to discuss the future of public education in this part of the state.Also being invited to participate are government, corporate and community leaders. Jim Dezell, president of IBM's EduQuest Co., will be a guest speaker.
The consortium was created by the General Assembly as a partnership among school districts, businesses and institutions. It was organized last year as the first group of its kind in Virginia.
It covers school systems in Buchanan, Dickenson, Lee, Russell, Scott, Smyth, Tazewell, Washington and Wise counties; the cities of Bristol and Norton; Clinch Valley, Emory & Henry, Virginia Intermont and Bluefield colleges; Mountain Empire, Virginia Highlands and Southwest Virginia community colleges; and the Southwest Virginia Higher Education Center in Abingdon.
