OBIT HANCOCK, ROBERT M., ("BOB")

HANCOCK, Robert M., ("Bob"), 81, of The Roanoke United Methodist Home, died Wednesday, February 24, 1993. He was a member of Melrose Avenue United Methodist Church and served with the Roanoke City Fire Department for 38 years before retiring in 1974 due to injuries suffered in a city fire. He was Fireman of the Year in 1961. He was preceded in death by his wife, Frances Deyerle Hancock, who died July 2, 1992. Surviving are two sisters, Margaret Hancock Minnix, Vinton, Naomi Hancock Shank, Roanoke; two sisters-in-law, Louise D. O'Brien, Lois D. Pollard, both of Roanoke; one niece, Teresa S. Hedge, Floyd Co.; three nephews, Ralph Alan Shank, Las Vegas, Nev., Jerry Minnix, Hardy, Rev. Dan Minnix, Houston, Miss. Funeral services will be conducted at Oakey's Roanoke Chapel at 3 p.m. Friday by the Rev. Richard L. McNutt and Mr. Fred Tanner. Burial will be in Evergreen Burial Park. The family suggests in lieu of flowers memorials be made to the Gideon Memorial Bibles, P.O. Box 4322, Roanoke, VA 24015. Friends may call at Oakey's Roanoke Chapel.
