OBIT KEREWICH, DR. EUGENE L.
KEREWICH, Dr. Eugene L., of Charlottesville, died February 24, 1993 at
Eldercare Gardens. Born in Shenandoah, Pennsylvania, he was the son of the
late Joseph and Victoria Kalvaitis Kerewich. Dr. Kerewich was a member of Holy
Comforter Catholic Church and had served his country in World War II as a
Lieutenant in the United States Navy. He completed his undergraduate studies
at Temple University; in 1942 he was graduated from Temple University School
of Dentistry; served his internship and residency at the Medical Center in
Jersey City, New Jersey; taught at the Medical College of Virginia School of
Dentistry and was an Associate Professor of Dental Surgery and X-Ray. In 1948
he began his private practice in Charlottesville, continuing until his
retirement in 1986. Dr. Kerewich was a member of the American Dental Society,
Virginia Dental Society and Shenandoah Valley Dental Society, Implant Dental
Society; Academy of Oral Dynamics, Virginia Chamber of Commerce and Farmington
Country Club. He is survived by his wife, Jane Walker Kerewich of
Charlottesville and formerly of Roanoke; a daughter, Victoria K. Blackford and
son-in-law, William S. Blackford of Oradell, New Jersey; two sisters, Veronica
Alshon of Shenandoah, Penn., and Florence Hill of Pinckneyville, Ill.; a
sister-in-law, Mrs. John L. Walker Jr. of Roanoke; and numerous nephews and
nieces. He was preceded in death by a brother, Joseph Kerewich, three sisters,
Mrs. Stelle Lokitis, Mrs. Isabel Wayland and Mrs. Anna Wassel. The family
suggests memorials to the Senior Center, 1180 Pepsi Place, Charlottesville,
Va. 22901 or Ronald McDonald House, P. O. 4005, Charlottesville, Va. 22903.
Friends may call at the family residence, 225 Terrell Road, West at any time.
A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Friday in Holy Comforter Catholic
Church. Father Charles A. Saglio will officiate, assisted by Dr. Thomas D.
Kennedy. Interment will follow in Monticello Memory Gardens. Teague Funeral
Service, Charlottesville, is in charge of arrangements.
