IN SERVICE

NAVY AIRMAN MICHAEL S. BELCHER, son of Willie M. and Judy M. Belcher of 2815 Crown Circle, Salem, is in the Persian Gulf aboard the aircraft carrier USS Kitty Hawk with Fighter Squadron-1111, based in San Diego.

The Kitty Hawk has been part of Operation Southern Watch, enforcing a no-fly zone over southern Iraq.

Belcher, a 1990 graduate of Glenvar High School, also served recently off the coast of Somalia with the relief effort Operation Restore Hope.
