ETC. NHL PLAYERS WON'T BECOME OLYMPIANS

The NHL announced it will not make professional players available to compete in the 1994 Winter Olympics.

"We appreciate the National Hockey League's consideration of this issue," said Walter L. Bush Jr., president of USA Hockey. "We know that this was a decision which required a great deal of thought, time and effort. Now that this situation has been resolved, we will move ahead with our traditional program."

\ Florida schools are not giving girls the same athletic opportunities as boys, so some lawmakers want to yank the sports budget of any school that doesn't have equal programs for both genders.

The proposed law, which passed a House subcommittee unanimously Wednesday, would require that every school in the state - elementary, high school, community college and university - spend an equal amount on athletic programs for boys and girls or risk having all its state sports money frozen.
