RADFORD ESCAPES DEMONS 65-62 IN 4TH OVERTIME

Two free throws with three seconds left in the fourth overtime carried Radford past Christiansburg 65-62 in the semifinals of the New River District boys' basketball tournament Friday night.

Radford will play Blacksburg in the championship game tonight at 7:30. Blacksburg defeated Carroll County 58-49 on Wednesday night.

Third-seeded Radford led 23-19 at halftime, but the Demons outscored the Bobcats 16-13 in the third quarter and 10-9 in the fourth to send the game into overtime.

Both teams were scoreless in the first overtime period. They were tied after scoring nine points each in the second overtime and five apiece in the third overtime for a 59-59 score.

Radford had four points to Christiansburg's three in the fourth overtime when the second-seeded Demons sent the Bobcats to the free-throw line with three seconds to go.

Casey Underwood scored 18 points to lead Radford, Kris Smith had 14 points, Chuck Hubbard scored 11 and Ricky Clark and Andy Clark added 10 apiece. The Bobcats made 23 of 28 free throws.

Tony Bishop had 13 points to lead the Demons. Rodney Perdue and John Hairston scored 12 points each, and Robbie Gillenwater had 11. \
