PHELPS, Laveta Sowers, 77, of Roanoke County, died Thursday, February 25,
1993. She is the widow of Elmer N. Phelps and is survived by her sons and
daughters-in-law, Marlin J. and Mary D. Hoback, New Castle, J. D. and Ellouise
C. Hoback, Roanoke County; brothers, Basil Sowers, Salem, Chester Sowers,
Floyd; sisters, Aldene Vest, Fairfax, Geneva Mitchell, Roanoke, Joy Ann Huff,
Floyd; five grandchildren, Steven Paul Hoback, James Vernon Hoback, Julie
Fletcher, Susan Hoback and Mark Hoback; a stepgranddaughter, Roberta Lynn
Christian; two stepgreat-grandchildren, Nikki Christian and Greg Christian Jr.
Funeral services will be held noon Monday at the Lotz Salem Chapel by Rev.
Everett L. Kier Jr. with burial in Sherwood Memorial Park. The family will
receive friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday at the Lotz Salem Chapel and memorials
may be made to the Alzheimer's Disease Fund, c/o Roanoke/Salem Chapter, Box
5014, Roanoke, Va. 24012.
