BRIDGE PROJECT UNDER WAY IN WYTHE

Plans are under way to start work on replacing the Jacksons Ferry Bridge on U.S. 52 across the New River by mid-1993.

John Bishop, Wythe County resident transportation engineer, said the project tentatively is scheduled to be advertised in April, with construction probably starting in May or June.

"It probably shouldn't impact the school system this [school] year," he said, because schools probably will be closed for the summer when work starts. But he has been meeting with school officials on what detours will be necessary for buses in the fall.
